Special Thanks!
Tajari Lester of the Northern Illinois Scholarship Program held a bake sale with other young ladies and raised $365.75. She is pictured handing over the money to board member, Greg Alloian. These funds will be used to purchase one larger kitty condo for our main cat room. Special thanks for all their efforts and compassion!

Here is little Angel, happy and safe!

An Angel in a furry body is coming to Save-A-Pet and needs your help!
Some older facilities, especially in rural areas, have outside kennels where people can leave their animals at any time of the day or night without having to be accountable for the state they dump them or for providing any information on their “pets”. So this past Saturday, Angel was left outside in a kennel in Southern Illinois and no one knew she was there until Monday morning. She sat there, most probably all weekend, in the dark and all alone, with no food or water. When the Animal Control Officer discovered her, she picked her up and Angel gently put her head on her shoulder, as if to say “thank you for being so kind to me”. The warden said she could smell rotten flesh and when she checked her out, she choked up with tears.

Angel’s collar was so embedded that when it was finally removed, it almost looked like someone had sliced her throat in half (we have received these pictures but have not posted them because they are extremely graphic) and everyone is amazed that she was even still alive. The only “decent” picture of her is the one we are posting – you can somewhat see the “cut” as she is laying there. We immediately responded to the appeal for help and are making a special trip to pick her up. Upon her arrival here, she will most probably go straight to the vet. We are however hopeful to have a foster home lined up as soon as possible in order for her to start her convalescence in a home.

Despite all this abuse and all throughout her being handled, she has remained as sweet as can be with all people. She IS an angel in a fur coat. We are so touched by her resilience, her continued trust in people and her unconditional love for everyone that has cared for her…even though she must have been in excruciating pain that really she is the one that is teaching us a lesson of love, hope and never giving up!

If you can help with fostering (fostercareinfo@save-a-pet-il.org) or with her vet cost (information@save-a-pet-il.org), please contact us as soon as possible as the email addresses listed or by calling 847-740-7788, ext. 116 for fostering information and ext. 102 for helping her financially.

Advantages of adopting a dog or cat
There are many advantages to adopting a dog or cat. Adopting a pet can be a great way to reduce our every day stresses and anxieties. In addition, there are many other reasons why adopting a dog or cat can be important in your life.

For instance, pets can help us to relax and help us to focus on the good things in our lives. This can be very helpful when we are overwhelmed by the stresses and anxieties of our lives. Playing with our pets can help reduce our fears and anxieties in any situation.

Pets can get our minds off of our problems. A person could do an activity with their pet or other animals that will give them a fresh perspective on things. Spending time with animals will get your mind off of the problem and give you the energy to do other things. Most importantly, playing with animals will give you the self-confidence that you can cope and that you can get through a stressful day.

Spending time with a pet can reduce loneliness and can be a great source of companionship. A pet can help us to feel better. Also many people talk to their pets and this can help us to get their problems out in the open. Animals can be of good company to all of us and can prevent the fear of being alone during our troubles.

Pets are 100 percent faithful and will be by your side through the good and bad times. Everybody deals with anxieties, stresses and other life problems, and it is during those times when you need someone by your side to talk too. Your pet will never leave you regardless how bad your problems may be.

By adopting a pet, you will be saving a life; a life of an animal that could very well become your best friend. A pet will love you unconditionally during his or her lifetime. Don't let a few obstacles prevent you from gaining a faithful companion in your life. Adopting a pet can be beneficial to your health and be one of the best things that you can do in your life. Save-A-Pet Precinct
You have probably seen "Animal Precinct" on the Animal Planet channel! We have our own version right here at the shelter. Our licensed humane investigators have been busy helping animals in the surrounding communities. Each investigation could take weeks and sometimes even months before things get resolved, but our investigators are persistent and will not close a case until the animals are safe and cared for properly. Please remember, if you see an animal in trouble, you may be their only hope. You can contact your local police, animal control or a humane organization such as Save-A-Pet (847-740-7788, vm. 154) who has licensed investigators on hand. Your call can remain anonymous and you could be saving a life! Check out the Illinois Humane Care Act:
