Classy Sassy & Tassie Two sisters, Classy Sassy and Tassie were just dropped off at a kill-shelter when their family moved to a place that wouldn’t allow dogs. Not that these two girls had an easy life…they were never allowed in the home and were kept in their yard with a dog house to sleep in when it was cold. Kids were allowed to interact with them and their family said that they were both good with them. Obviously, especially in the very cold months or warm months, most people stayed inside while they only had each other to keep warm and to keep their spirits up, through all the ups and downs of their lives.
To make things worse, many shelters do not take into account the bond that may exist between animals that have grown together and Classy Sassy also tested positive for heartworm. The volunteers there work very hard, especially on cases like that, in trying to find other organizations that would be willing to take two dogs, one of them needing treatment, and that will keep them together.
Classy Sassy was described as shy – our volunteers have found her nothing but that, always the first one to try to get in on the loving and petting. The kill-shelter tested them to check how she would be around food, cats, how fast she gets aroused or if she had any interest in retrieving…the only time she perked up was when she was getting petted. Their final comment was “strangest test: does not react to anything” and added dog is very calm, gentle and friendly.
Tassie can appear a little bit more aloof at first, more interested in sniffing things around when she is first out but then definitely warms up very quickly and comes over to get loved too. She was also cat-tested and did fine and was overall described as friendly too. Both of them always have huge smiles and just adore everyone that takes them out. They play nicely together and it is very touching to watch how they constantly give each other little kisses, rubs or nudges – the bond is right there in front of your eyes, a bond that cannot be broken!

Chardonnay & Tipster Together since birth, these two just can’t be separated after 11 years! The email came in with just a few words: “they have been together since they were 6 weeks old – now seniors and their owner is seriously ill so they are at the pound. Very sweet temperament.” How could we just let them finish their lives like this? Kept as outside dogs, Chardonnay (black female) and Tipster (male) made the ride to Save-A-Pet and ready to experience life in a real home.
Chardonnay probably never knew what a toy was and is starting to show interest…at least running after it when you throw it. Hey if it is fun for her, that’s perfectly fine if she doesn’t bring it back. She is also often the one that initiates play with Tipster, who most of the time is not too interested. Maybe she just loves to feel that freedom of being able to run left and right and not being confined in any other way.
Tipster is more interested in “guy” things, going on walks, sniffing who’s been here before him and of course leaving information for the next guy after him. If you sit in a play yard with him, he’ll go about business for a little while and then comes back to you and nudges you for petting.
Just watching this duo, you would never guess that they are 11 years old…except for the little gray around their muzzle. They are easy-going, affectionate and just always seem to be happy.

WE FOUND A HOME! Coty & Maxwell House Coty (5 years old) and Maxwell (6 years old) lost their home because of allergies. A string of bad luck….when a family member passed away, they were happy to find a home with one of the relatives but unfortunately that only lasted for a couple of years and now, once again, they find themselves without the safety and comfort familiarity of a home environment. It took them a long time, and still now, to start coming out a little bit. They hide in one of the cubby holes in a cat tree and we have to make sure that they do eat by bringing them food right where they are at. They are probably very confused, and at least they have each other, always snuggling up to each other and not really venturing out.
Coty is playful and affectionate…even somewhat demanding in his needs for love. He can be quite shy at first and it takes him a little longer to warm up to people. He had all his teeth removed when he was younger due to stomatitis but it doesn’t affect him at all – he still eats hard and wet food! He loves attention and loves to be brushed. He is a sensitive guy that desperately needs a lot more kisses and petting than he is getting right now.
Maxwell is easy-going and very affectionate, just not the extravert type that immediately runs to the door to greet anybody coming in. He is keeping a low profile with his feline friend, Coty, still somewhat confused as to why they are here. He loves attention and is always ready for a relaxing belly rub. His prior home also reported that he is very curious…a trait that we have not seen here.
Many volunteers try to give them a little bit of affection every day and are trying to get them to come out a little bit more but they are just overwhelmed. Hopefully someone will be interested in an affectionate duo – all the perks of two loving cats without having to go through the proper feline introductions (we all know how some take a long time to welcome a new friend). Both are front-paw declawed and looking to find a home that will allow them to remain together.

Bunker and Mom Bunker and Mom got adopted together just a few months ago and came back because of personal trauma in the life of the adopters. They thought they had finally escaped to a better life and had no intentions of coming back…alas…
A kitty bed is a must…when you are not home, perfect to feel safe and snuggly. Now that’s where you’ll find him here, kind of hiding and keeping a low profile. Watch out though: a staff member shared his little secret: it’s all appearance because what he really loves most is being in someone’s lap, wrapped in their arms. He is then the happiest cat on the block. Bunker gets along with other cats but unfortunately some of them will sometimes try to bully him and Bunker just won’t do anything.
Her special little burrito is how one of our volunteer catroom cleaners has nicknamed Mom. She wraps her in a little towel and then holds her, all the while giving her kisses and smooching with her. Mom is a cute little lady, a little bit on the shy side, that can often be found perching on one of the kitty condos in the main cat room. She is a sweet girl that loves keeping a tab on all the activity that goes on….especially when she gets to play the “sweet burrito”. She also enjoys watching other cats goof around, running in circles or chasing each other. She is starting to get her paws wet but hasn’t totally dared yet to get as crazy as they are.
They really seem to have bonded while they were in their adoptive home and are hoping that someone will give them the same luxury, a life together.

Wensday & Pugsley These two cute little puppies (some think sweet as white and milk chocolate) were found as strays and spent a month in a foster home with two other dogs, a pug and a lab mix. Everyone got along just fine but all has to come to an end…with a new beginning and that’s where you come in!
Wensday is just adorable – her foster home describes her as very playful and active, always ready to run around and rough-house with Pugsley. She also loves toys, especially stuffed animals and tennis balls. She is accustomed to being groomed and getting her nails clipped, thinks vets are great people and really loves meeting everyone. As she is a little bit of a tomboy, she would do better with older kids. She still does a little bit of the puppy nips but all it took the foster home was to tell her “kisses only” and she would immediately obliged. At night, she enjoys cuddling on the couch and watching TV.
Pugsley is also very sweet. He LOVES your attention and that starts first thing in the morning when he gently barks to wake you up. He is a mamma’s boy because he really enjoys snuggling. If you pretend you are crying, he will stop whatever he is doing to make sure you are ok and to give you kisses. If your hands are over your face, he will use his paws to move them. How much more can you ask?
Both are crate-trained and know their basic commands (sit, fetch, down). They also sit at the door when they have to go. They also know standing on hind legs; just tell them “up” and of course a treat is always appreciated. We have to say that they are quite a clownesque duo. They are extremely attached to each other: they drink together, play together, lay next to each other. They are just inseparable and always very concerned about each other and do not like to be apart.

WE FOUND A HOME! Lucy Lu & Rugby (aka Tiger) Lucy Lu (aka Lucy) is not happy with so many invasions by other cats of her personal space every day and expresses her discontentment quite vocally. It works becaue they stop and then just leave her be. She is an active and confident cat that loves to play and can be quite sociable. Finding herself here after having spent her life since she was a kitten in the same home has left her a little bit overwhelmed by her new living conditions. She is an intelligent girl and it didn’t take her long to figure out the best spot in the house to be one of the first to get either breakfast or dinner: the little cat tree right by the kitchen door and this way no one can bother her either. She is front-paw declawed and was described as an easy-going and loving girl.
Her “hubby”, named Rugby (his real name is actually Tiger but we already have one), has adjusted better than she has. He can often be found roaming around, attentive at everything that is going on and always trying to get in on the loving, even at times following you to get attention. His family however said that he wasn’t always as outgoing or sociable as Lucy. He is also described as a friendly and affectionate guy. While they didn’t live with kids, they reported that both of them were good with them. He is also front-paw declawed.
Lucy Lu is about three years old and her mate Rugby (aka Tiger) is about 5 years old.
